Refactoring Credit Suisse’s Financial Messaging Platform - An architectural perspective

Abstract: 

Financial Messaging is one of Credit Suisse’s most critical banking infrastructure functions. It enables the bank to access financial markets world-wide on a 24/7 basis, e.g., to make or receive payments at the required speed, or to settle securities transactions at the required volume.
This is an indispensable capability for any large global player in the financial industry.
Hence, performance and stability of the financial messaging infrastructure are vital both from an operational and from a reputational point of view.

As any larger software system engineered by man (so far), financial messaging systems have a finite lifetime from a technological perspective.
Towards 2010 it became evident that Credit Suisse’s financial messaging infrastructure had to be renovated. After careful analysis the decision was taken to engage into a full-fledged architecture refactoring exercise.

The lecture will give deeper insight on architectural caveats, requirements and related implications when designing and building such critical applications.

Bio: 
Dr. Win Bausch currently leads an engineering team tasked with building and supporting Credit Suisse’s Financial Messaging Infrastructure. Prior to his current role, Win was a lead architect in the Financial Messaging Domain. Win completed his graduate studies with a PhD from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ), and his undergraduate studies, also at ETHZ, with an engineering degree in computer science.
